Unfortunately, due to limited resources and demand for our postpartum program, prenatal lactation and infant feeding consultations are not currently available at Willow Family Medicine.
At present, our program only provides support following birth. If you or your child encounters or suspect feeding challenges, please have your care provider fax a referral to our program as soon as possible. If a referral is sent, but you do not require our help, you can always not book the appointment or cancel with sufficient notice. However, the sooner the referral is sent, the sooner we can help you and your family.
If you have experienced the challenges below or hope to increase your knowledge about infant feeding, you may benefit from a focused prenatal consult, and/or the following resources may be useful to you. Please note that all resources may not apply to every family, and program availability varies.
Previous feeding difficulties include but are not limited to nipple pain, slow-to-gain weight infants, previous children requiring supplements, low milk supply, early weaning
Any breast/chest/nipple surgery
Anatomical concerns such as tethered nipples
Insulin resistance (elevated or positive glucose tolerance test), type 2 diabetes gestational diabetes, PCOS
Difficulty conceiving
Multiples
Tandem nursing
And those planning to induce lactation
